5 takeaways from the Texas win over UTSA
David Mundee HEADLAND – After several losing seasons, the Headland Rams volleyball team is changing the culture.
Providence Christian, a young team with no seniors and only two juniors on its 11-player roster, dropped to 6-13 overall and to 1-2 in area play. “They play with a big difference with her in there and it’s her. Every single time out, she is the one going, ‘Give me a good pass. Tell me where you want.' They have confidence in her. When you have a setter like that, the whole team is better.”“I don’t think we came ready to play in the first set and we just got dominated basically,” Providence Christian’s Oldfield said.
The string of points started with a Providence serve into the net and was followed by a PCS attack out of bounds and an ace by Headland’s Gates Carver. The Rams’ Natalie Knowles earned a block before an over the line violation by PCS tied it at 24. On the ensuing point, a Providence dig effort off an attack by Headland’s Kit Quinlivan went out of bounds, pushing the Rams up three points, but the Eagles earned a kill to cut the gap back down to two.
