Former Labor senator Stephen Conroy and former Victorian Liberal Party President Michael Kroger have led calls for Paul Keating to refuse an offer to meet with a top Chinese official.
Two former politicians have called for ex-prime minister Paul Keating to turn down a meeting with China’s foreign minister to avoid “being used”.
The federal government is unlikely to take a similar view however, with the former prime minister having consistently lashed out at its foreign policy decisions over the past year. “There’s lots of politicians who come here on official business from different parliaments around the world that catch up with people, so is it some sort of outrageous thing that happens? No”, Mr Conroy said.
