Steve Carell will always be known for his enduring performance as Michael Scott in The Office, but he’s had a much more successful career than you might think. Carell has picked up an impressive 10 Emmy nominations in his career, and he even earned an Oscar nod just over 10 years ago for his performance opposite Mark Ruffalo in Foxcatcher.
Carell is also known for his work in one of the most famous comedies of all time in The 40 Year Old Virgin, and he put on his more serious acting chops opposite Ryan Gosling and Christian Bale in The Big Short. Carell is now more than 60 years old, but he’s showing no signs of slowing down as he still continues to deliver some career-defining projects in this later stage of his career. Carell’s next big project, Rooster, is due to arrive on HBO Max this Sunday. It comes from Ted Lasso and Shrinking creator Bill Lawrence, and it follows an author’s intricate and complicated bond with his daughter set against the backdrop of a college campus. The first of ten episodes in Rooster will premiere in the coveted Sunday late-night spot on HBO Max this weekend, but early reviews for the show are already pouring in. At the time of writing, Rooster holds a solid 80% rating from critics on the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, positioning it as the perfect show to take over Sunday night programming from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Audience reviews for the series will not be available until the first episode airs this Sunday, but it’s shaping up to be yet another Carell classic. What Else Is Streaming on HBO Max Right Now? The most popular show on HBO Max right now is the aforementioned Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. However, it’s poised to lose the top spot soon to The Pitt, the critically acclaimed medical drama starring Noah Wyle. Rooster is also expected to be a solid streaming competitor upon its premiere this weekend, but only time will tell if it has the mettle to dethrone some of HBO’s certified classics. The most popular movie on HBO Max globally right now is Jurassic World Rebirth, the sci-fi reboot starring Scarlett Johansson. The film is streaming on Netflix in America.
