Close-up of Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Hogwarts House identity has remained a defining part of the Harry Potter franchise long after the films and books ended, with fans continuing to associate actors with their characters' sorted Houses. Felton is one of Slytherin's most recognizable figures and has frequently engaged with his legacy in fan interactions and public appearances.

In an interview on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast on Thursday, Felton provided an enthusiastic update on his current personal Hogwarts House, telling Horowitz that he can "happily report" that he is in fact "team Slytherin." The confirmation likely came as welcome news for his fans, who have long associated Felton as the face of the aforementioned Hogwarts House. Draco Malfoy was originally sorted into Slytherin, a House known for its strong, self-reliant, yet sometimes arrogant wizards. And while he was happy to be there, it was not the first choice for the film's titular star. When Harry Potter was getting sorted, he repeated, "Not Slytherin, not Slytherin" to the Sorting Hat, and viewers know he ended up in Gryffindor. In the interview, Felton walked through his entire history with the House quiz, saying the first time he tried, he "sort of cheated it and tried to answer everything as Slytheriny as possibly could." This didn't help his cause, however, with Felton reminding viewers that "you can't fool the Sorting Hat," which, in 2021, ended up putting him in Gryffindor. A separate quiz taken by Felton a year prior, placed him in Hufflepuff, prompting Felton to post on Instagram, saying, "a sad day.... on so many levels." In addition to being a Syltherin House staple, Draco has many relatable quotes in the Harry Potter universe, one in particular that relates directly to the Hogwarts House. "Imagine being in Hufflepuff. I think I'd leave, wouldn't you?" Draco lamented, confirming just how seriously people take their sorting placements, and, as Felton shared in the interview, how "very proud" they are of"their chosen House." Felton also revealed that all three of his older brothers took the quiz, and each got sorted into Hufflepuff. His mother, meanwhile, landed in Gryffindor, and his father, much like his dad in the books and films, is a Slytherin. Felton's on-air announcement cemented what fans had come to expect, which is that the real-life Draco is proudly Slytherin. Beyond setting the record straight on his Slytherin status, Felton has also returned to the Wizarding World with his Broadway debut as Draco in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. In the interview, Felton discussed how, after shows, he asks fans about their houses, and if it's not Slytherin, Felton, "steals their play bill, and run away with it as a joke." With Harry Potter being just as relevant today as it was when it premiered over two decades ago, Tom Felton's interview highlights why Hogwarts Houses remain culturally significant. The conversation highlights how Hogwarts House sorting is "one of the biggest trends in modern society," with fans eager to be sorted and excited to see which House some of their favorite actors are placed in.
