With Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Harrison Ford broke an unusual Disney record. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was delayed so long, the press surrounding the fourth entry constantly jabbed fun at Ford's age. Little did those writers know that the star would return one last time 15 years later for the fifth entry Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny's previews made constant reference to the opening sequence, where a de-aged Ford fights Nazis on a train. While the de-aging tech used during this sequence is impressive, and some of the best it has looked, it still has a waxy, unnatural look in many shots.
Harrison Ford Beat The Previous Record Holder By A Year In nabbing this title, Ford only beat the previous record holder Richard Farnsworth by a year. Farnsworth was 79 when he played the title role in David Lynch's The Straight Story, which was based on a true story. The veteran star had previously appeared in The Natural and 1990's Misery, and for his acclaimed work in The Straight Story, he would receive an Academy Award nomination for best actor.
Ford was almost 81 when Dial of Destiny was released, and he still proved more than convincing when it came to the action side of the adventure. The film serves as a better finale for the iconic action-adventure series than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull too, with Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny's ending also leaving the character on a nice note.
