The New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers conclude their four-game series on Thursday afternoon at Comerica Park.
Without knowing for sure, Bader is certain someone put in a claim, probably a bunch of contenders. He’ll go to the one with the lowest winning percentage, perhaps the Marlins , who are three games out of an NL wild-card spot, or the Reds , who are a game back. The Twins and Red Sox are possibilities, too.Bader has favorite spots he’d like to land — he wouldn’t name them — but he’ll go wherever and be appreciative.
He loved playing for them last year, especially in the playoffs when he hit five homers in nine games. He had a blast again this year even though he missed a lot of time with injuries, his stats are poor and the Yankees will miss the playoffs. Whether it’s later this season or next year, Bader already is looking forward to playing against the Yankees. When that happens, there will be no extra incentive. He won’t be looking to prove Yankees management wrong or issue a payback.
Bader was in a cheerful mood after Wednesday’s game. The Yankees have won three in a row for the first time since July 21-23 and he finally got a hit. His 1-for-3 with a walk felt good because he went into the game in a 0-for-17 drought.
