The New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers continue their four-game series on Wednesday night at Comerica Park.

Maybe it was fate that Bader was looking at the very moment his name ran across the bottom of the screen on the crawl.Bader stared at the TV for a moment longer in disbelief. He had been called into the manager’s office the day before and told to expect less playing time in September while the out-of-contention Yankees go with youngsters, but Aaron Boone didn’t give him any heads-up that the organization was looking to get rid of him ASAP.

Bader told himself to focus, but it wasn’t easy. He knew any of the other 29 teams could claim him right away or before his 48-hour waiver window was up. Bader hopes this wasn’t his last Yankees game, but in case it was he made himself available for a post-game interview so that he could send a public message to let everyone know how much he’s enjoyed life since the Cardinals traded him to his hometown team at the 2022 trade deadline.

Bader’s plan was to bus back with the Yankees to their team hotel, then wait and see what transpires on Wednesday. Contenders figure to be interested because his play in center usually is elite and anyone can have him on its postseason roster with a claim before Sept. 1, which is Friday.
