The goal is to help long-term care workers grow in their careers while also enabling nursing homes to offer an appealing benefit.

Harrisburg University’s new 11-story, Health Sciences Tower on Chestnut St. in Harrisburg, Pa., Sep. 13, 2023. Mark Pynes | pennlive.comThe Pennsylvania Health Care Association and Harrisburg University of Science and Technology are partnering to help long-term care workers gain new degrees and skills and qualify for better jobs in health care.

Under the partnership, long-term care workers employed by PHCA members can qualify for up to 25% tuition discounts for certain healthcare-related classes, programs and certificates, including graduate programs. The benefit also extends to family members, who can receive tuition discounts of up to 10%.

“This partnership delivers a new incentive for our members to offer their employees,” he said in a news release. “With employers in other sectors having the luxury of promising employment bonuses and other added benefits, long-term care providers face limitations and often struggle to compete for employment interests. Recognizing the value of our long-term care workforce, Harrisburg University has stepped in as a partner that wants to give back to caregivers and support our members.
