A 56-year-old Harrisburg man on Wednesday became the ninth victim to have died as a result of a drug overdose in what officials are considering a spate of lethal overdoses from fentanyl-laced drugs.
Substance abuse disorder and drug overdoses are spiking among people 65 and older. The latest death adds another tally to an ongoing harrowing spate of fatal overdoses that began Saturday when authorities sounded the alarm that crack cocaine and synthetic drugs had initially tested positive for fentany. Police over the weedend received repeated reports of overdoses downtown and in midtown that they believed appeared to be connected.
Many of the victims were older individuals over 40 - some in their 60s and at least one who was 70. Officials are pointing to anthe overdoses occurred from Friday night into Saturday morning
