Harlan football eliminated from UIL Class 6A Division II playoffs with loss to Austin Vandegrift
SAN MARCOS — Amid the postgame scrum that marked the end of Harlan 's season, a Hawks player made a bold proclamation. “We’re gonna be back.” Friday night’s Class 6A Division II playoff quarterfinal game at UFCU Stadium against Austin Vandegrift didn’t go Harlan ’s way, with the Hawks’ season ending with a 47-14 loss to the Vipers . But even though their season is over, the Hawks are confident in the future they are building after going 12-2 this season.
“When you’ve graduated a quarterback you’ve had forever that knows the system and you have a new quarterback come in very inexperienced, you have that tendency to go, ‘Man, this is gonna be tough,’ ” Salas said. “But we’ve got to let him do what is possible, right? And then he can do the impossible. But he kind of did the impossible right away, so that was a pretty neat deal.” Trotter finishes his first season as Harlan’s starting quarterback with 22 touchdowns and over 2,200 passing yards.
