“That's the biggest hail I've ever seen, and I've been chasing storms for more than 30 years,” said Val Castor. The current record is a 6.416-inch hail stone that fell in Hondo, west of San Antonio, on April 28, 2021.The Texas State Climate Extremes Committee has to meet and confirm the size. That process can take weeks.
It's similar to having the "state record" bass in the livewell of your boat. Until it's been weighed on a certified scale, it's only a fish tale.
