The Jeffrey E. Piccola Law Enforcement Complex at Harrisburg Community College has temporarily closed after concerns about lead in the facility.
The decision comes after the discovery of high levels of the dangerous heavy metal in blood tests for instructors working in the facility.Their results indicated concentrations of lead that slightly exceeded 30 micrograms per cubic meter of air, the recommended OSHA Action Level. "We realize that this temporary closing is an inconvenience to many. We apologize..." the college said in a statement made on their website. But went onto to clarify that:In response, the school stated that they would be having their facilities cleaned and the air filtration systems balanced."The College will continue consistent monitoring of filtration air flow systems; range cleaning protocols; and range filtration equipment and lead waste removal.
