DAVID MUNDEE Houston Academy used the bunting game and capitalized on a couple of errors to down G.W. Long 7-1 in the opening day of the Dothan Diamond Classic at James Oates Park on Tuesday. HA scored four runs without a hit in the bottom of the first inning thanks in part to four sacrifice bunts.

After Emily Maddox was hit by pitch, Emily Adams’ sacrifice bunt turned into an error. A double steal moved the runners to second and third. Consecutive sacrifice bunts by Mallory Magrino and Jadyn Rausch scored runs as throws from G.W. Long pitcher Anna Claire Free to the plate were late. After a strikeout, Mary VanRope’s bunt scored another run. Long closed the deficit to 4-1 in the top of the third with a run-scoring single by Kaylie Joseph, but a two-run single by HA’s Keira Stulginski in the bottom of the inning made it 6-1. Houston Academy 10, Geneva 2Geneva led 2-0 after three innings, but Houston Academy erupted for four runs in the fourth inning and six in the fifth to pull out the win. Paige Welch had two hits, including a two-run homer, and both Mary VanRope and Aniya Collins had a hit with two RBI. Emily Maddox, Emily Adams, Molly Magrino and Jadyn Rausch all had a hit and an RBI with Maddox and Rausch earning a double for their hits. Adams was the winning pitcher in relief, working the last 2 1/3 innings, allowing no runs and one hit, while striking out two and walking one. For Geneva, Hayden Howell had a run-scoring triple and Kiersten Lewis had an RBI sacrifice. Howell and Aubree Lamb both had two hits for the Panthers. Wicksburg 12, G.W. Long 2Wicksburg hit four homers, accounting for seven runs, in the win over the Rebels. Chloe Joyner hit a three-run homer, Ella Grace Kelley a two-run shot and Ellie Cox and Anleigh Wood both added a solo homer.Cox finished 3-for-3, while Wood and Turvin both earned two hits.Anna Claire Free hit a two-run homer to highlight the G.W. Abbie Ellenburg and Sarah Turvin both had a hit and two runs batted in to lead the Panthers’ offense. Chloe Joyner and Addyson Kelley both added a hit and an RBI. Dothan 11, Enterprise 7 Dothan scored four runs in the top of the fourth to break a 7-7 in capturing the win. Brantlee McCarthy was 3-for-4 with a homer and two runs batted in and Savannah Kendrick had three doubles and three runs batted in to lead Dothan. Sara Harris, Jadyn Hutchins and Reese Colbert all had two hits with Harris and Hutchins driving in a run each. Makenna Descalzi added a hit with two RBI. Kendrick was the winning pitcher in relief, allowing one unearned run over 3 1/3 innings and scattering five hits. She struck out five. For Enterprise, Josie Thompson had three hits with one RBI, Addie Reagan two hits and two RBI and Ansley Reeves two hits with one RBI. Gracyn Snell had a double and two RBI. Dothan 14, Headland 5Dothan scored eight runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to break a 5-5 tie and earn the win. Brantlee McCarthy was 3-for-3 with two homers and three runs batted in and Maylee Lancaster, Sara Harris and Makenna Descalzi had a hit and two RBI. Kinley German and Reese Colbert added a hit and an RBI. Savanna Kendrick was the winning pitcher in relief, throwing the final 3 1/3 innings and giving up just one hit and one unearned run. She struck out four.Enterprise 18, Carroll 0 Madeline Tindol pitched a four-inning, three-hit shutout with five strikeouts and the Wildcats’ offense had 15 hits. Josie Thompson had two doubles and four runs batted in, while Addie Reagan, Lee Lott and Mackenzie Reagan all had two hits with Reagan and Lott with one RBI each. Lott and Addy Whaley hit a solo home run. Sydney Neuwinn, Lila Faulk and Emma Barrette all had a hit with two RBI. Maddie Bochat and Gracyn Snell both added a hit and an RBI.Rehobeth 9, Ariton 7Rehobeth scored eight runs in the second inning before holding off Ariton, which put the tying runner on base in the fifth and last inning before AG Massey got a strikeout to end the game. Baleigh Nowlin was 3-for-3 with a run batted in, Payten Roland 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and Brooke Nowlin was 2-for-2 with one RBI to lead Rehobeth’s offense. Adeebah Yusuf and Jazzy Andrews added a hit and RBI each.Eight players had a hit for Ariton with Molly Snell earning two hits. Macileigh Bragg and Brianna Achua both had a hit with two runs batted in and Beth Dixon, Nya Allen and Lizzy Faircloth all had a hit and an RBI. Rehobeth 11, Eufaula 0Maddie Williams belted two homers and a double in going 3-for-3 and driving in six runs to spark Rehobeth’s win.Alex Cobb pitched a four-inning two-hit shutout with four strikeouts for the pitching win.Opp 2, Headland 1Rylie Kate Thrash belted a walk-off solo homer to start the bottom of the fifth for the Opp win.Headland’s run scored during an error. Addison Mosley was the winning pitcher, allowing just three hits and an unearned run, while striking out seven.Addison Grantham, Tiana Mitchell and Kinley Hughes had a single each for Headland. Opp 11, Carroll 2Crislyn Birge was 3-for-3 with a run batted in and Addison Moseley had two hits to lead Opp. Mckenzie Henderson added a double and two RBI, Autumn Green a single with two RBI and Taylor Adams a run-scoring double. Jaiden Ivey chipped in an RBI single. Gradyn Lunsford picked up the pitching win, tossing four of the five innings and giving up three hits and one earned run. She struck out one.Ariton 15, Northside Methodist 1Lizzy Faircloth struck out six and allowed only two hits and a run over four innings in the pitching circle and added a hit with two runs batted on offense to lead Ariton. Nya Allen had a two-run double and an RBI ground out and Laney Deloney had a hit and an RBI, while Beth Dixon and Madolyn Hudson both drove in two runs for the Purple Cats. For NMA, Baileigh Martin had a double to score Alyssa Turner, who had a single. The two hits were the only ones for the Knights. Knowles finished with two hits.Ava Milton, Ameria Anderson and Addison Belyeu, Abby Oleson all had two hits for Pike Road with Milton driving in two runs and Anderson one. Charles Henderson 11, Providence Christian 8Charles Henderson overcame an 8-1 deficit with 10 runs over the last three innings, including three go-ahead runs in the top of the fifth inning. Jada Jones was 3-for-4 and both Calleigh Compton and Camille Lewis had a hit with three runs batted in and Janazia Cantlow had a hit with two RBI for CHHS. Lewis was the winning pitcher, throwing 3 1/3 scoreless and hitless innings of relief with two strikeouts. Ella Duke had a three-run double to lead PCS, which also got a hit and an RBI from Madilyn Walding, Maddie Norris, Addison Russ and Emma Duke. Pike Road 9, Dale County 3Pike Road scored in the first four innings, including four in the fourth and three in the first, in downing the Warriors. Ava Milton was 3-for-3 with a homer and three runs batted in and Ameria Anderson added a solo homer for the Patriots. Kasyn Wilson had two hits and Anna Williams had a double and two RBI. Abby Oleson scattered six hits and three runs, only one earned, over five innings with one strikeout. For Dale County, Leah Grace Snellgrove had two hits and two runs batted in and Jaslyn Smith had a hit and an RBI. Dale County 17, Providence Christian 5Dale County scored in all four innings, including six in the second and seven in the fourth. Emma Grace Rhoden was 3-for-3, Leah Grace Snellgrove 2-for-4 with four runs batted in and Shayleigh Whitman 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBI. Bre Wilkerson had two hits with one run batted in and AK Snellgrove and Mah-Xariah Andrews had a hit and two RBI.For PCS, Carlee Smith was 2-for-2 and Addison Russ had a hit with two RBI.
