Houston – The mother of a man shot and killed near a taco truck on Richmond Avenue Wednesday is sharing her painful story with KPRC 2. She tells us not only is she grieving but she’s also upset with the way her son’s case is being handled. His mother says she’s glad the suspected shooter turned himself in but isn’t happy with the lack of information from officials.“You killed the most respectful young man. You broke my heart, took my soul,” said Stacie McKnight, talking about her son who she referred to as “Marco.” He would’ve been 32 on July 9th, but his life was snatched away by gunfire outside of a taco truck on Richmond and Dunvale. “I was working a 16-hour shift Monday night into Tuesday morning and got a call from Marco’s girlfriend.” McKnight says the girlfriend told her she had got a message through Snapchat saying a man was looking for Marco. Marco was later shot dead.“She said the next thing she knows, she gets a picture of my son laying on the ground under a sheet,” McKnight said.“He was a good guy, mama’s boy. Very intelligent, had his own business, detailed cars. He has three children that he left behind,” she said. Police say arrested Rontreyvius Wooten and charged him with murder. Part of the evidence being used in this case is surveillance footage from a camera that was just feet away from the shooting scene. There is chilling video showing the moments Wooten allegedly hopped out of the passenger side of a white car and shot Marco. McKnight is relieved at least one of the suspects involved is off the streets “The detective told me that he had just had the case handed to him an hour earlier and told me that Don Julio was a nickname, and that he had just turned himself in,” she said. But McKnight says she’s still frustrated because most of the information she’s received came from Marco’s girlfriend instead of authorities. “I’m thinking why is she doing y’all’s job? Why is she telling me, why aren’t y’all telling me? You should’ve been the one to tell me about my son’s death and I’m getting the run around, ‘well it’s the holiday and we really haven’t processed everything,’” she said. We reached out to HPD for answers but because of the holiday we were unable to reach anyone. As the investigation continues, McKnight has a plea to others who were involved. “Please just turn yourself in and be done with it so we can move on in life. You know what I’m saying. Forgiveness can be given but I’m not there yet. I’m just asking you to do the right thing,” she said. If anyone has more information in this case you’re asked to police or Crimestoppers anonymously at 713-223-TIPS.
