Facility would collect electricity during peak production and return it to the system during off hours
A renewable energy company has proposed building a 250-megawatt battery storage facility in Oceanside that would collect electricity during peak production hours and return it to the grid later in the day. 'It’s an exciting and important project that would support the City of Oceanside’s climate action plan as well as the Clean Energy Alliance’s procurement plan,' said Nathan Murdock, director of business development for REV Renewables Development, in an email Thursday.
The company opened its 40-megawatt Vista Energy Storage in Vista in 2018, and at the time it was the largest storage facility of its kind. The company opened a larger facility in Chula Vista in August 2023. 'If feasible, we hope to have the project operational by 2027,' Murdock said. 'This project would be quite similar to our other sites in terms of building type and operational profile,' he said.
