Officials don't know if it's the same wild cat seen running around downtown Oceanside earlier this week
Days after a mountain lion was spotted running around downtown Oceanside, police said Saturday a mountain lion was struck and killed on the city's northeast side. Authorities do not know if it was the same mountain lion. The site of the crash is more than eight miles from city's downtown.
The driver was not hurt, but the wild cat was killed. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife will examine the animal's remains, and will try to determine, if possible, whether it was the same mountain lion that had been roaming around downtown. It was unclear why the mountain lion was in such an urban area as downtown Oceanside. A biologist with Fish and Wildlife said it was possible that the animal was lost and might have been trying to find a new home.
