Grey's Anatomy isn't afraid to be what it is - a big-budget soap opera. Taken in that context, it's a fun and compelling drama where the romance works and the friendships feel real and earned.It's kind of a meme at this point about how this show will never end and that there's always drama happening at this hospital, but there's a reason it continues to withstand the test of time. It's utterly captivating as a modern, globally accepted soap opera.
While it's technically a medical drama, I'm much more entertained by the lives of the staff. There is always something steamy, emotional, or unexpected going on. Unfortunately, I think the series has lost steam since season 11, which is why I can't give it a higher rating than 3.5 out of 5 stars. If I could separate it, everything from season 11 and before would get a 4 to 4.5-star rating, and everything after that would get a 2.5.
