What’s a rare example of a carbon market that is efficiently regulated and pushing corporations towards real reduction of emissions as opposed to just off-setting?The EU may often be a regulatory forerunner on climate change , but its crown jewel, the backbone of Europe ’s entire climate and energy strategy – the EU Emissions Trading System – often falls under the radar of public awareness.

Serial entrepreneur Valentin Lautier, Founder of Homaio is out to not only change this, in a world-first, his mission is to crack open the opportunity to lucrative and green investment in EU ETS to the everyday investor.“I’ve been in entrepreneurship and tech for almost 15 years. I wanted something that made that proverbial ‘dent in the universe’; climate change is the only thing that matters in this respect. I wanted to do something new and different and act at a systemic level,” says Lautier.

“Everyone’s trying to do things the way that ‘works’ without questioning whether there’s a way to do it better,” says Lautier. “You have to take the long route if you’re not piggybacking on already established ideas and mechanisms.” “Of course, no return is guaranteed; there’s risk and you might also experience a loss, but we expect approximately a 15–20% increase per year over the next five years. This is backed by the fact that the member states have an interest in the increasing price of these assets because they make money from them,” explains Lautier.
