About 9:20 a.m. Saturday, Greeley police responded to reports of a suspicious man running with a knife. He was running east on 20th Street from 59th Avenue, according to a news release issued by the Weld County Critical Incident Response Team, which is investigating the shooting. Police tried blocking the suspect’s path in the 5700 block of 20th Street, but he brandished the knife and charged at officers, according to police. Police discharged their weapons and tried to provide life-saving measures. The suspect was taken to a hospital, where he later died. Before the shooting, the suspect was at his grandparents’ home in the 5400 block of 24th Street, according to investigators. There, the suspect stabbed his brother, according to police. The brother was taken to a hospital and died from his injuries. Aims Community College went into a secure perimeter status about 9:40 a.m., according to a text alert sent to students. Students were advised to stay inside as classes and operations continued indoors. At 9:45 a.m., the Greeley Police Department posted to social media about a road closure on 20th Street due to the investigation.
