Mon, June 23rd 2025 at 12:28 AMMinutes before the looming deadline that would pass any undecided bills into law, Governor Greg Abbott vetoed SB 3, the THC Ban Bill. This was one of Lieutenant Governor, Dan Patrick''s, priority bills this session.
The bill would ban any THC product from being used, sold, or possessed in Texas. Leading up to the decision, Governor Abbott had a decision to make that could be taken in three ways:If Abbott were to not act on the bill by 12:00 am on Monday morning, the bill would automatically become law."Not only do you hurt the Texas state economy, but you create a domino effect for anybody outside of Texas farming for this," Store Manager at IVAPE ATX, Bryce Hartness, said. Patrick has been vocal about the bill for months leading up to the decision. He said this product is harmful to those who use it, and children are getting their hands on it too easily. "There's a tremendous onslaught of pressure from an 8 billion dollar industry that has unlimited money, and they're trying to poison the story," he said. "These are people who want to kill your kids. And they don't give a damn." Hartness, and other dispensaries across the city argued there needs to be more regulations, not an outright ban. "I think they left the door wide open by giving it to the gas stations, Letting them set it right next to the Coca-Cola was probably never a good idea," he said. "Regulate the product, regulate where it gets sold."
