Gospel extravaganza: One night only with Kelly Khumalo
She will be taking to the stage at what could be considered her home of performance: Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre – on April 15.
So the concept is a gospel concert, hence Gospel Explosion [her live show’s title]. It’s something that I’ve been wanting to do for quite some time now, and we had plenty of it [time] before the first lockdown. After that, obviously, we had to not even postpone, [but] literally cancel [the show], because the restrictions were not allowing.
The concert is to be all about the people who have complimented her spiritual journey, from her early days in church till now.I grew up listening to Hlengiwe Mhlaba. I got the pleasure of featuring her on one of my gospel hit songs. And Takkie [Ndou] I’m just literally a fan. I was driving one time and just going through my gospel songs, and I found this song [of his] and it spoke to me and from that day on, I started listening to Takkie’s music.
The show is not necessarily a mechanism for her to showcase her seventh studio album, which is yet to get a release date but is being fine-tuned in studio.I want it [Gospel Explosion] to be an annual thing, where children of God from all walks of life get together under one roof and just worship and celebrate the power that sustains us on a daily basis.“I think even the title of it speaks for itself. It’s called From a God to a King.
