FILE - Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene , R-Ga., arrives for an interview in Laconia, N.H., Jan. 22, 2024. GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is once again threatening to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson after lawmakers returned from a two-week Easter break.
Greene posted a lengthy letter to colleagues on social media explaining why she filed a motion to vacate Johnson.. "Today, I sent a letter to my colleagues explaining exactly why I filed a motion to vacate against Speaker Johnson." Greene in stark terms warned Johnson not to reach across the aisle to Democrats for votes he would need to pass pending legislation that hard-right Republicans oppose, particularly aid to Ukraine.
”This has been a complete and total surrender to, if not complete and total lockstep with, the Democrats’ agenda that has angered our Republican base so much and given them very little reason to vote for a Republican House majority," she wrote.in order to avert a government shutdown by midnight."No Republican in good conscience can vote for the uniparty minibus. This is not a Republican bill," she wrote alongside the video on X.
A majority vote is required to remove the speaker and it is not immediately clear how the House would act.
