Google Meet 's note-taking feature, powered by its Gemini AI, is gaining a valuable new capability for Workspace teams. The feature will now automatically generate a checklist of suggested action items at the conclusion of your meetings. This checklist goes beyond simply listing tasks; it assigns due dates and identifies a primary stakeholder responsible for each item. \This enhancement builds upon the note-taking feature's initial launch in August of last year.
Since then, I've had the opportunity to test it out here at The Verge, and while it's not flawless, the results have been generally promising. Gemini's voice-to-text transcription has proven capable of accurately separating speaker voices and producing a mostly accurate record of the discussion. The generated summaries are surprisingly coherent and well-structured, presented in a Google Doc that is automatically shared with all participants after the meeting ends. \Personally, I'm not yet ready to fully relinquish my control over note-taking to artificial intelligence. However, as long as there are no concerns about sensitive information being exposed to a large language model, I'm increasingly open to the idea of AI assisting with this task. This new action items feature is slated to begin rolling out today, though Google emphasizes that the deployment will be gradual. They are carefully monitoring performance and quality before widespread availability.
