Ashley Griffith, a paedophile from the Gold Coast, has been convicted of crimes against dozens of children he cared for at childcare centres between 2007 and 2022. The majority of his victims were girls aged three to five, suffering severe psychological impacts.

Another parent of a victim told the court she had decided never to reveal the abuse to her daughter. She described burning the girl’s kindergarten cot sheets. She said she would take walks in the heavy rain where she could “howl and howl”.“I have night terrors, awaking with crippling fear of what might happen if she somehow discovers … the horrific abuse. I fear that some day someone will make the terrible mistake of revealing our daughter’s identity.
“This whole situation has installed a deep mistrust of everyone in our two oldest boys. We were once a very welcoming family, with an open door policy. Since the abuse has come to light there have been noticeable changes in our beautiful, confident girl.”She said her daughter had said: “I’m not afraid of the dark. I’m afraid of what’s in the dark.”Earlier, prosecutors summarised details of the charges and the investigation that had resulted in Griffith’s arrest.
Police found Griffith had catalogued video recordings of his offending against dozens of children. He had folders where he “retained enrolment and attendance records and child photographs and … created montages and films of various interactions”.
