Edgar Wright's upcoming The Running Man adaptation is getting a slight delay, with the Glen Powell-led action movie's release date moving.
The Running Man is now set to release on November 14, 2025, a week after it was previously scheduled to premiere on November 7. According to a report from Deadline, the reason for the delay is simply to allow for the movie to play across more IMAX screens.
The release date now moves the movie an extra week away from films like Predators: Badlands and Die My Love., with other cast members including Josh Brolin, Michael Cera, Colman Domingo, Katy O’Brian, Lee Pace, William H. Macy, Sean Hayes, and more. The Running Man, which is based on a novel by Stephen King, takes place in a dystopian America in 2025. The story revolves around a man named Ben Richards who competes in a deadly reality show to win enough money to help heal his daughter. Powell is playing Richards, while Brolin is believed to be playing the person behind the reality show. “In a near-future society, The Running Man is the top-rated show on television—a deadly competition where contestants, known as Runners, must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward. Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards is convinced by the show’s charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian , to enter the game as a last resort. But Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite—and a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters, but a nation addicted to watching him fall,” reads the synopsis. A 1987 adaptation of the novel was directed by Paul Michael Glaser and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Conchita Alonso, Yaphet Kotto, and Richard Dawson.The script for the movie was co-written by Wright — known for movies such as 2004’s Shaun of the Dead, 2010’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, 2017’s Baby Driver, and more — and Michael Bacall.
