The Giants have the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft
Manny Gómez | NJ Advance Media for NJ.comAfter learning that the Giants were hosting Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders for a private workout on Thursday, Canty, who’s part of the 2011-12 Super Bowl winning team, used the ESPN airwaves to beg Mara not to take the quarterback with the No.
3 pick.. “Your head coach and general manager are in the hot seat. You had to write a letter days after the season ended to remind everybody, ‘Hey, we’re going to stay the course. We’re not going to be in a cycle of hiring and firing coaches all the time. Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll are coming back.’ When you do that, you’re telling us that they’re starting the next year on the hot seat because you wouldn’t issue a statement at the end of the season about them returning next year. “If you weren’t deliberating whether or not you were going to fire them, or if they had done a good job, why on God’s earth are you going to take a quarterback knowing that they’re not in doing what’s in the best interest of the kid. They’re doing what’s in the best interest of job security. It makes no sense. It is maddening.”Sanders sat out just one college game, the final game of the season, at the request of his head coach and father, Deion. Otherwise, his college stats speak for themselves. This season, he had 4,134 passing yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His 74% completion percentage ranks first and his 168.2 QB rating ranks second among quarterbacks with at least 300 pass attempts.Canty played four seasons with the Giants, helping them win Super Bowl XLVI against the New England Patriots. He retired from football after 11 seasons with two other teams — the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens. Since then, he’s one of the main NFL analysts for ESPN, appearing on “Get Up,” “First Take,” and a hosting a number of ESPN Radio shows throughout his tenure there.Ex-Giants TE dies after going into cardiac arrest: ‘There is a 6’ 7” hole in our hearts’NFL Draft 2025: If Giants pass on Shedeur Sanders, how steep is drop-off to next QBs?
