Monte Vista students storm the court after the Mustangs upset Dougherty Valley 64-61
DANVILLE — An administrator patrolled the sideline for four quarters Thursday night, keeping a packed Monte Vista student section constrained to its portion of the bleachers as the mass of students cheered every make and bemoaned every miss for the home team.
Monte Vista now has home wins over EBAL titans De La Salle and Dougherty Valley , which are the top two teams in the Bay Area News Group’s rankings. With the score tied 47-47 after three quarters, Monte Vista grabbed the momentum by scoring 10 of the first 13 points of the final period. Two baskets byAfter Krueger’s brother, Kasen, scored on a layup to put Monte Vista up 57-50, Dougherty Valley’s Conner Sevilla did all he could to prevent the upset.
Sevilla’s last three-pointer cut the Monte Vista advantage to one point with less than a minute left, and that was answered by a Joshua Mathew layup that gave the Mustangs a 62-59 lead.
