The annual San Diego Pride Parade is the largest single-day civic event in the region.
SAN DIEGO — CBS 8 is proud to team up with SDCCU, Jersey Mike’s, and the San Diego County Office of Education to “Stuff the Bus” and get much-needed school supplies into the hands of local students experiencing homelessness.
Now through July 31, you can help change the lives of local students by making a donation at any San Diego CountyAll donations will go to the San Diego County Office of Education, which will be purchasing and distributing the school supplies and backpacks to districts all around San Diego County.The donated funds will go toward buying school supplies for the 21,000 San Diego County students in need.
“We continue to hear from local schools and educators asking for supplies and letting us know how much it means to the families who receive them. There are many families who are struggling to meet their basic needs,” said Susie Terry, coordinator, Homeless Education Services at the San Diego County Office of Education. “This drive allows us to alleviate some of their burden by providing new supplies to students so they can start school ready to learn.
Homelessness for school-age children can mean living in a shelter, sharing a residence with multiple families, living in a car or trailer in San Diego County or sharing a room in an apartment with relatives. Homelessness is not limited to urban, downtown San Diego. It also affects suburban school districts all over the county.
Last year, the “Stuff the Bus” campaign collected over $103,000, which was used to fill 9,147 backpacks with over 220,000 supplies for students in San Diego experiencing homelessness.KFMB would like to send you push notifications about the latest news and weather.
