Geneva, N.Y. (WHAM) Another local nonprofit is losing a critical source of funding.
The Geneva Family YMCA is losing a critical source of funding from United Way that could impact youth programing. The United Way of Greater Rochester announced Friday it is evolving its Community Impact Fund , leaving some longtime nonprofit agencies, like the
"It was a bit of a surprise, especially with the longevity of the funding being there for a couple decades," Freelove said. "It’s something that creates scholarships for kids, and it helps keep the tuition low for families, so it’s something that every year we hope to have that funding." "The YMCA provides impacts for everyone that comes to the Y, so not being able to provide that impact could be detrimental," Freelove said.
Charlie Evangelista, former executive director of the Geneva Family YMCA, said 70 children are currently enrolled in the after-school program, and there are waiting lists.
