Geneva, N.Y. — An 18-year-old Geneva man was convicted on Friday for knowingly providing Fentanyl disguised to look like Percocet to a 16-year-old girl who later died as a result of ingesting the Fentanyl.
The 18-year-old, who was 17 years old at the time he provided the Fentanyl, faces a sentence of 6 months in jail and 5 years of probation. "Today's guilty plea provides some sense of justice for the young woman who lost her life and her family, but unfortunately does not alleviate the pain caused by the defendant's actions," said Assistant District Attorney Peter Van Dellon. "We need this community to truly understand the impact the sale of illegal drugs has on our youth and the community as a whole."
"We encourage everyone in our community to continue to be vigilant. The drugs, in this case, were disguised as a less lethal controlled substance, right down to the stamp pressed into the pills," said Assistant District Attorney Meghan Maslyn, "Fentanyl is deadly. We are finding it in all types of street drugs, and it's killing people. Today's plea holds an 18-year-old accountable for providing a 16-year-old with the drugs that took her life.
