The Group of Seven nations will pledge to funnel financing to developing countries to help them build infrastructure and accelerate a shift to renewable energy, according to the U.K. government

FALMOUTH, England—The leaders of the Group of Seven nations on Sunday plan to set out a wide-ranging set of measures to combat climate change as they aim to almost halve their greenhouse-gas emissions by 2030.

The group of rich nations will pledge to funnel financing to developing countries to help them build infrastructure and accelerate a shift to renewable energy, according to the U.K. government, which is hosting the G-7 event. Among other measures, G-7 leaders will commit to ending direct government support for overseas coal-power generation by the end of this year, the White House said.

Canada, Germany, the U.K. and the U.S. will also provide as much as $2 billion in financing to help developing countries transition away from coal, the White House said. The leaders will outline steps they are taking to halt most government subsidies for overseas fossil-fuel producers and measures to phase out gasoline and diesel cars.
