The fate of historic buildings in Fort Halifax Park is in question as the township looks to sell part of the property.
, a non-profit that supports and manages the park, took to social media Monday to share concerns about the sale and what it could mean for the 200-year-old buildings included in the plan.
According to Friends of Fort Halifax Park, the board of supervisors voted to subdivide the park, which would allow them to sell the park’s Building Envelope, a 2-acre area of buildings, to a private entity.
The park told CBS 21 that it has been trying to make the park buildings useful to the public for over 20 years, renovating some of the buildings around 2018. “But they believe a sale is what is best, so we are hoping for the best, but our membership is heartbroken by the possible loss of the cultural icons and the unknown,” the park said.
