Fox canceled the series in 2003, after only four seasons. In 2008, the franchise was revived thanks to its advanced popularity on Adult Swim. This resulted in four direct-to-video movies. Comedy Central then picked it up and released two more seasons in 2010 and 2011 before they too canceled it. In 2023, Hulu came to the rescue and revived it again. The show has since had three 10-episode seasons on Hulu. Despite its struggles to find an audience and stay on the air, critical reviews were always exemplary. The first season had an 82% Rotten Tomatoes score, with a 96% audience score. The second, third, and fourth seasons don’t have enough critic scores, but the audience scores remained high, sitting at 96%, 97%, and 96%, proving the people who watched it loved it. The two seasons on Comedy Central one again received praise, with a 92% and 86% RT score.
