Fundraising walk slated for Saturday to benefit San Diego Humane Society [Breaking]
The San Diego Humane Society is inviting pet owners and their furry companions to participate in Saturday’s 29th annual Walk For Animals at a park in Liberty Station to raise funds to assist homeless pets, rescue animals and injured wildlife., will raise at least $320,000. The event kicks off with a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. with the walk set to begin at 9 a.m. It typically is the group’s largest fundraiser of the year.
Around 5,000 walkers and nearly 1,000 dogs participated in last year’s event, which raised nearly $300,000, said society spokesperson Nina Thompson. In addition to the walk, there are dog activites planned and music and vendor booths lined up.The organization also holds a walk in North County in February to raise money but poor weather forced this year’s event to be scuttled.
“After our Walk in Escondido was rained out, we are especially looking forward to spending time with our community and celebrating our shared passion for animals,” Gary Weitzman, president and CEO of the San Diego Humane Society, said in a statement. “Every dollar we raise helps us be there for the 40,000 animals who will come through our doors this year.”
In 2021, during the pandemic, the group combined both walks into one virtual event and raised $210,000. In 2022, $130,000 was raised at the Escondido walk plus nearly $300,000 was raised in the San Diego event.
