The esteemed publication highlighted Fredericksburg Cast Iron's $160 cast-iron skillet and Hill Country Antler Art's unique creations made from naturally shed antlers.
The cast-iron pan — made by Heartland Enterprises, another business belonging to the owner of Fredericksburg Cast Iron — is a ten-and-a-half-inch skillet that costs $160. The pan initially sold online through limited release for six months.
"They almost immediately flew out of stock," Jay Mallinckrodt, co-founder of the business, told Texas Monthly."The year 2022 was our first full year, and in the fourth quarter, around Christmas season, we did about 50 percent of our sales. And now we're sending about 35 percent of the inventory out of state."Fredericksburg Cast Iron is now offering a second product, the Number 14 Comal,"essentially a cast-iron griddle.
The second product, from Hill Country Antler Art, features deer and elk antlers made by hand into chandeliers, furniture and accessories. Del Benedict, the craftsman behind the project, started it as a simple hobby that now has a waitlist of clients. "I choose them because of their uniqueness, and I try to match these antlers so they look how they're supposed to look," Benedict told Texas Monthly."This is supposedly the fastest-growing, non-cancerous thing on Earth. These antlers grow about an inch a day and they regrow them every year."
