From “celebrating independence” of COVID-19 to being thrust into the tightening grip of inflation, many things look different from the last Fourth of July.

. The economy was booming and public approval of President Joe Biden’s job performance was solid. Fast-forward to this Independence Day, and many things have seriously changed.

President Joe Biden laid out his plan to fight against a new COVID-19 variant called omicron, which has popped up in countries across the world. The president said sooner or later the variant will arrive in the U.S. and it's cause for "concern, not panic" as officials make preparations to combat the new strain.— the first country in the world to reach the grim milestone.

And another blow for Biden’s administration came last month when the Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to abortion underand curtailed the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. Despite inflation and high gas prices, Americans have also been taking advantage of their newfound freedom from the pandemic this Independence Day.
