"We were prepared for anything and everything," said Shea Ferring, Firefly's chief technology officer. "Luckily, we haven't had much thrown at us and it's going really well."
"We're hoping to be the first to successfully land, softly and upright, and then operate for the full duration," Ferring said.NASA is paying $101 million for the mission and another $44 million for the experiments. Firefly Aerospace is carrying 10 NASA experiments including a vacuum to gather dirt, a drill to measure the temperature below the surface and a device that could be used by future moonwalkers to keep sharp, abrasive particles off their spacesuits and equipment.
