MGM+ is fast becoming to horror what Apple TV is to sci-fi. While it hasn’t yet broken into the mainstream like its bigger streaming rivals, the Amazon-backed platform is definitely on to something. The streamer is home to From, a twisty sci-fi horror series that has been the talk of the horror community for a while now.
It is arguably the best horror series on the platform, and the streamer is doubling down in that vein with The Institute, a new adaptation of Stephen King’s novel written for television by Benjamin Cavell. While it has received some acclaim, it has been unable to unseat From as the most popular horror title on MGM+. From premiered its first Season in 2022 and has since consistently maintained its spot on MGM's Top 10 charts. While rankings typically shuffle to reflect changing audience appetite, From has never slipped outside the Top 10. The arrival of a potential competition like The Institute should have threatened that crown, but From stands undefeated as the platform's most popular TV series. The Institute has also attracted solid viewership of its own, but since its debut in July 2025, it has consistently trailed behind From. Interestingly, the standings mirror their critical reception, with From boasting a near-perfect 96% while The Institute sits at a fair 65%. From has drawn favorable comparisons to cult favorites, like Lost, with some even rating it higher for its brilliant layering of mysteries and clues. For the uninitiated, the series centers on a cursed town that traps anyone who enters. The story begins with the Matthews family, whose road trip takes a terrifying detour when they stumble into the town, only to realize there’s no way out. Alongside other trapped residents , they race to unravel the town’s dark secrets before they're all consumed by the malevolent forces that lurk after dark. The King of Horror himself, Stephen King, approves of the show, and once tweeted about it, saying,"FROM: I'm three episodes in. Wonderful concept, beautifully handled. Is it possible these people are dead and don't know it? That spike through the head ... holy cow.” When Is 'From' Coming Back? Fans of From have plenty to look forward to, as the series has already been renewed for a fourth season. Filming began in June and is expected to wrap in November, in time for a planned release in early 2026. Recently, series star Ricky He, who plays deputy sheriff Kenny Liu, shared that production is now in its final stretch, teasing that the eerie town’s next chapter is closer than ever.
