Several North Texas schools were sued by Attorney General Ken Paxton, who accused them of swaying voters in the primary elections.
The district is among a handful of Texas schools Paxton’s office accused of illegal electioneering ahead of Tuesday’s primary elections. Others include Denton, Castleberry, Denison and Aledo in North Texas, along with Hutto, north of Austin, and Huffman, northeast of Houston. After discussing the suit in closed session, district officials said they wanted to assure the community that school employees “don’t encourage anybody to think a particular way or to vote in a particular way or for a particular person.”
The other two posts explain how “very few competitive seats were left” after the state redrew Senate and House districts in 2021, solidifying which seats would be held by Republicans or Democrats. Paxton’s office obtained a temporary restraining order against the district on Feb. 29, in which the court ordered Frisco administrators to immediately halt the activities that triggered the lawsuit.
