The Texas Poor People's Campaign hosted a mass assembly at the Texas Capitol to demand that legislators end death by poverty. This event launched a 40-week effort to mobilize lower-income voters in Texas for the upcoming elections and to also demand that legislators take action to work to end death by poverty in the United States.

Guest speakers included Nyeka Arnold, the director of The Healing Project, Chas Moore from the Austin Justice Coalition, and Sabrina Sha from Asian Texans for Justice . "There are too many people in this country and particularly in this state that are dying from poverty unnecessarily." said Tri-Chair with the Texas Poor People's Campaign Denita Jones. "I've been part of the system, and I know what it means to make a dollar too much, but you still can't cover your basic needs." Voters shared testimonies and encouraged politicians to address the issue of death by poverty in the United States. "It's important that I stand in solidarity with so many other people that are going through this and put a face to the voice," Jones said.
