French journalist Sylvain Mercadier and Syria n activist and lawyer Muhammed Fayyad described being detained, beaten, and subjected to brutal interrogations by Israel i soldiers in Syria n territory. The incident occurred while they were working in the village of Hamidiye. Mercadier stated that after the Israel i army attempted to seize their computers, they were detained with their hands cuffed behind their backs and mouths gagged.

They were taken to a military base in the occupied Golan Heights, where they were forced to sit cross-legged on the ground for four hours, mistreated, insulted, and humiliated by the soldiers. Mercadier specifically recounted being beaten because he refused to unlock his phone for the army. After the interrogation, they were driven to another village and released, but their SIM cards, phones, cameras, and memory cards were not returned
