The 119th Congress began on Capitol Hill on Friday with the election of the Speaker of the House and the swearing-in of its members.The incoming Congress has four new faces from Texas : Craig Goldman in District 12, Julie Johnson in District 32, Brandon Gill in District 26 and Sylvester Turner in District 18.Goldman takes over the seat that was long-held by Rep. Kay Granger.Granger announced she would not seek reelection in 2023. She'd held the seat since 1997.
Johnson's district covers the suburbs in northeastern Dallas County and parts of Collin and Denton counties.She was a three-term member of the Texas House, represented District 115.Republican political newcomer Brandon Gill is the newest representative of District 26.The former Wall Street executive's district covers suburbs north of Dallas and stretches all the way to the Oklahoma border.
