News 12's Tara Rosenblum is in Washington, D.C., where in less than 24 hours, the 119th Congress will gavel in. Our senior reporter was in the nation's capital to find out what their policy priorities are and how they could impact the tri-state. The balance of power is shifting in a dramatic fashion, with Republicans set to take control of the Senate .
While it's an 'upside' for the GOP, the more tricky part of the political calculus for them this session is that their majority in the lower chamber will be super-tight. The House GOP will have 219 seats in the new Congress - only one seat more than it needs to keep the majority. This means they will not only have to reach across the aisle to court Democrats, but also manage in-fighting within their own party to get things passed - and there is very little room for dissent. The big question now is whether Mike Johnson can get enough support to secure a second term as House speaker. This will be the first order of business when the session gavels in on Friday, so News 12 asked our local members to weigh in on what they think Johnson's odds are of keeping the gavel
