Wait times at the airport were expected to exceed four hours, as the TSA continues to be impacted by a U.S. government shutdown.
Passengers faced lines more than four-hour's long at one of America's busiest airports on Tuesday morning, officials have warned, despite the presence of federal immigration agents to help during a partial government shutdown.
Social media videos showed lines weaving through George Bush International Airport in Houston, where officials issued an urgent alert and warned"missed flights possible; contact your airline." Houston Airports, which manages multiple airports in the area, said while TSA Checkpoints at Terminals A and E are open, checkpoints in Terminals C and D are closed. CLEAR and TSA PreCheck are not available, it added. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents “are supporting TSA operations” at the airport, Houston Airports said. ICE agents have been deployed to several airports across the United States to help ease wait times, as a government shutdown continues to impact Transportation Security Administration workers. George Bush International Airport has suffered long lines in recent days. The airport is the fifteenth busiest in terms of passenger numbers in the U.S., according to Federal Aviation Administration data. Wait times were less than eight minutes at nearby Houston Hobby Airport—the 36th busiest in the U.S.—according to Houston Airports. ICE agents have also been seen conducting lines at Hobby.
