JON JOHNSON Former Troy University golfer Will McFadden, a native of Mobile one year into his pro career, is getting his first experience of a Q-School tournament this week at Highland Oaks in Dothan.

McFadden got off to a nice start with a 2-under par 70 opening round, which included an eagle on No. 15. “I’ve played in probably 20 mini-tour events around the southeast and have had a ton of fun doing it,” McFadden said. “I was lucky enough to have won a mini-tour event very early in my career and made a nice check there over in Diamondhead, Mississippi, on the Emerald Coast Tour. That really helped me out for the last six months or so.”“It’s a lot more stressful than I expected,” McFadden said. “I’ve played golf since I was 6 years old and I’ve always had fun doing it.

He placed sixth overall in 2018 when Dothan natives Hal Dove and Thomas Ponder battled it out in a sudden death playoff , won by Dove.
