It will be constructed over several phases at a cost of about $7 million.

Pictured is the former Wedgewood Hills Swim Club property on Diamond Street in the township. A former swim club in Susquehanna Township will be transformed into a park with walking trails, playgrounds and a half-basketball court.

The Susquehanna Township Authority purchased the property in February 2022 from Fulton Bank, which purchased the pool in 2018, according to Dauphin County Property records. The pool originally opened in 1962. Earlier this year, the township surveyed residents for input on what they would like to see at the nearly 18-acre park.Director of Parks and Recreation Doug Knauss said the township is applying for grants to cover the cost of the first phase of the project, which is estimated at about $1.8 million. It will encompass infrastructure improvements, demolition work, installation of walking paths, a playground and tot lot and reconfiguration of the parking lot, he said.

Other phases of the project call for a paved trail crossing Asylum Run connecting to Veterans Park off Elmerton Avenue in the township, which Knauss said would give residents access to the Capital Area Greenbelt.
