Former Ireland U20 prop Rory Burke has died at the age of 30.
Burke, who proudly earned 10 caps for Ireland at the U20 Six Nations and Junior World Championships, began his promising career in the Munster academy in 2013. Within two years, he made his senior debut coming off the bench against Treviso.
His rugby journey led to him earning stripes with Nottingham in the English RFU Championship, where he tallied 30 appearances. The skilled loosehead prop returned to his homeland, joining Connacht for the 2019/20 season before his release post-season.
Munster Rugby expressed their sorrow: "All at Munster Rugby are deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of our former player and friend, Rory Burke." Tributes have poured in as Munster Rugby confirmed the passing of its former star Rory Scannell. "Rory, who played his schools rugby with CBC and his club rugby with Cork Constitution, joined the Munster Academy in 2013. A hugely popular member of the Academy squad, Rory made his senior debut against Benetton in April 2017. A month later, Rory won an AIL title with Cork Constitution.
The heartfelt tribute highlighted his connection with the team and the community: "He will be greatly missed by the Munster family and to all of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. May he rest in peace."
