A former children's orphanage in Fulwood is set to be redeveloped into residential properties, including townhouses, apartments, and executive homes. The project, known as the Harris Park scheme, has received planning approval but has faced delays due to a legal dispute over developer contributions to Preston City Council. Work on the development is expected to begin later this year.
A former children’s orphanage is to see new flats and houses built on part of its site in Fulwood .Orphanage, which was opened in 1888, was given planning approval in November 2022 but has since been stuck in a legal wrangle over the contribution by developers to Preston City Council – known as a Section 106 agreement.The chapel, school and master’s house in the grounds are to be three residential townhouses, as a first-floor mezzanine is put into the chapel.
Eden Grove Investment Properties Ltd and planning and development consultancy Lichfields say the Harris Park scheme is set to see work get underway later this year.: “The section 106 agreement secures a viability review mechanism, so that the financial viability is reviewed again at a later date.” Sign up below to receive Blog Preston's email newsletter.
