Express just posted a warning Tuesday morning on the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services website, indicating that the closure will affect more than 600 local employees. The company also said it plans to close more than 100 stores nationwide, including all of its UpWest stores. The layoffs at the Columbus office include 31 district managers and 23 assistant merchants, among others, and will begin in mid-June. All employees have been made aware of their separation dates, a notice from Express to media indicated., the company said it had received a commitment for $35 million in new financing, subject to court approval, from some existing lenders.
The AP also reported that the company currently operates about 530 Express retail and Express Factory Outlet stores in the United States and Puerto Rico, in addition to roughly 60 Bonobos Guideshop locations, 12 UpWest stores as well as online operations for these brands.
