A man with multiple arrest warrants was found last week, concealing himself in the backseat of a stolen car in the parking lot of a gas station.
Although multiple Baker County Sheriff's Office deputies surrounded 26-year-old Demetrius Burnett, he wasn't going to give up so easily. His subsequent decisions landed him with over two dozen charges and a K-9 dog latched to his thigh, records show.
A car was stolen out of an Anytime Fitness's parking lot along with the firearm inside it, and only hours later, the vehicle was spotted with Burnett behind the wheel. When he pulled over and a BCSO deputy started asking questions, he took off running, tossing the stolen car keys, losing his shoes, dodging a Taser and eluding a K-9 team.Florida man arrested for dumping over 10,000 lbs.
With deputies surrounding him, he quickly jumped into the driver's seat of the stolen Honda CRV out of Nassau County and rammed the deputy's vehicle, nearly striking several other deputies standing close by, the affidavit said. One BCSO deputy leapt into his patrol car and t-boned the suspect to prevent him from escaping or hitting more officials. Yet, Burnett reversed once more directly into another vehicle and the SunStop building.
Even with the Honda pinned and a four-legged officer tearing at his thigh, Burnett still refused to leave the car willingly. Deputies "physically removed" him and "forcibly" restrained his hands. Only then was K-9 Jocko removed from the suspect's thigh.
